- Discuss briefly what a square is, emphasizing that it has 4 equal sides.
2. **Demonstration (5 minutes):**
- Using a whiteboard, draw a large square while explaining each step.
- Draw one side.
- Draw another side of the same length connected to the first.
- Draw a third side of the same length perpendicular to the second.
- Connect the last side to close the square.
- Show the students a pre-drawn square template and explain how it might help them.
3. **Guided Practice (10 minutes):**
- Distribute white drawing paper and crayons or colored pencils to each student.
- Guide them through drawing their own square on the paper using rulers.
- Walk around the classroom to help any student who needs assistance, ensuring everyone has drawn a square.
4. **Coloring Activity (10 minutes):**
- Encourage students to choose their favorite colors to color inside the squares.
- Allow them to use multiple colors if they wish to make patterns or designs inside the square.
- Play calming, creative background music to inspire the students as they color (optional).
5. **Sharing and Display (5-10 minutes):**
- Once the students have completed their squares, invite a few students to share their work with the class.
- Praise their work, highlighting creativity and effort.
- Create a wall display in the classroom for everyone’s squares to foster a sense of accomplishment and community.
6. **Closure (2-3 minutes):**
- Summarize the activity by reviewing what a square is and praise the students for their effort and creativity.
- Encourage students to look for squares in their surroundings as part of their homework to reinforce the day's lesson.
- End the session with a cheerful song or rhyme about shapes.
**Assessment:**
- Observe students' ability to draw and identify squares.
- Evaluate their effort and creativity in coloring the squares.
**Extension Activity:**
Encourage students to practice drawing squares at home with the help of their parents and bring their drawings to the next class for a mini-show-and-tell session.
By the end of this lesson, students should be able to recognize, draw, and color a square, as well as appreciate the beauty of geometric shapes through creative expression.
